ABOUT

Catarina is a movement artist whose career blends boldness, curiosity, and a constant pursuit of new bodily languages. She graduated from the National Conservatory Dance School and began her professional path with an internship at the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company in Israel, supported by a grant from the Gulbenkian Foundation. She later joined the Portuguese company Vórtice, while continuing to enrich her training in different parts of the world, including Belgium (P.A.R.T.S.), the United States (New York and Los Angeles – Dana Foglia Program), Germany (Share), and Italy (Orsolina, with Juliano Nunes and Flock). She has worked with renowned choreographers such as Marco Ferreira, Alice Klock & Florian Lochner (FLOCK), São Castro & António Cabrita, René Vinther, Pedro Ramos, Nélia Pinheiro, Filipa Peraltinha, Miguel Esteves, and Gonçalo Lobato in collaboration with Jorge Reis.

In 2023 and 2024, premiered original works such as Deep(in) with Projeto Quorum, at the invitation of Daniel Cardoso, and Transformers for Kayzer Ballet Company, at the invitation of Ricardo Runa. In 2025, she created Tic-Tac for Funchal Junior Company and The Case of the Silent Shadow, for Estúdio 13 in the Azores. in 2026 was invited by Vasco Alves to do a short piece with a group of hip hop dancers, whith who Catarina created Lights Out.

Beyond the stage, Catarina works extensively in the audiovisual field as a movement director and choreographer for television commercials, theatre, music videos, and series. Her work includes the series Emília (RTP1), written and directed by Filipa Amaro and produced by Maria Mayer; movement direction for the Bastille brand campaign, directed by Francesco Bonasia and produced by More Maria; choreography for the Safe Volunteering campaign for CASES – Portugal Voluntário, produced by Bonzi; and the last two commercials for Cofidis, directed by Frederico Oliveira and produced by Krypton.

In the music field, Catarina has choreographed for artists such as Sara Correia and Israel Fernández. In collaboration with Tiago Coelho, she choreographed the music video for Brazilian artist Johnny Hooker, with whom she later performed as a dancer at Rock in Rio Lisboa.

As a movement director for theatre, she worked on Metamorfoses, written by Bárbara Rosa, and Anna, onde fica Guernica?, written by Luís Lobão and directed by Tiago Fernandes. She was also a performer in Project FNOM, directed by Magdalena Chmielewska, a music video produced in Poland for the artist Odet Music.

As a performer, Catarina participated in the music video for Madonna feat. Maluma, as well as in projects for D.A.M.A, Sara Correia, Anjos, and DjoDje. She has also performed live with artists such as Agir and April Ivy (including Rock in Rio Lisboa), Jennifer Dias on an international tour, and Anselmo Ralph.

Since 2018, in partnership with Tiago Coelho, Catarina has been developing choreographic projects that explore body symbiosis, optical illusions, and the limits of the physical body, both in solo and duet work. Their creations have received international recognition, including:

1st Prize at the Prospettiva Danza Teatro International Competition (Italy); seven awards, including 1st Prize, Audience Award, and Critics’ Award at the Teatri Riflessi International Performing Arts Festival; 1st Prize at the ModafeKorea Dance Competition (South Korea); 3rd Prize and Audience Award at the Linkage International Choreographic Competition (Bulgaria); and Audience Award at the SoloDuo Festival (Germany). They have also been invited to perform in Turin at MasDanza and in Taiwan at the Straybirds Festival, and received support from EFFEA in partnership with Companhia de Dança de Almada for an international residency supporting the creation and presentation of Forget Me Not.

They were also invited to choreograph for Companhia de Dança de Almada, where they premiered Whispers of a Shadow, and were later invited by Daniel Gorjão to create an original piece for RTP.
